CBT - Compulsary Basic Training

Compulsory basic training is a legal requirement for nearly all new motorcyclists*. Completion of the course will validate your provisional entitlement and enable you to ride a motorcycle on the public roads as a learner. The course is structured to teach you basic riding skills as well as road-craft which will form the future of your riding career.
(*exception relates to those who passed a full car test before 1st February 2001, who can ride a moped (50cc) if their licence shows category P as a full entitlement.)
CBT structure: The course is made up of five elements; you will complete each element in turn. If the necessary skills and theory knowledge are demonstrated throughout you will be issued with a DL196 certificate of completion.
The five elements:
- A. introduction
- B. practical on-site training
- C. practical on-site riding
- D. practical on-road training
- E. practical on-road riding
We provide the equipment you need at no extra cost including the motorcycle, helmet, jacket and gloves. We recommend you wear strong trousers or jeans and sensible sturdy footwear. Please be advised work-style steel toe capped boots or similar should not be worn.
If you have little or no road experience we suggest some-time is spent studying a current highway code. Although road-craft and theory is covered during the course a prior knowledge is useful and will contribute towards gaining the DL196 certificate.
